Rigid metal conduit fittings are tools and accessories that do the job of supporting and connecting multiple rigid conduits together along with attaching them to virtually any junction box and enclosures.
Many companies are there that produce industry standard rigid conduit fittings that are compatible with both ordinary and hazardous locations. These fittings are made of different types of metals such as malleable iron, steel, and zinc. Depending on their applications, they are also available as watertight, insulated, non-insulated, threadless, etc.
Features to Look for in Rigid Metal Conduit Fittings
The fittings are used in various types of applications and weather conditions. You’ll also find their uses in constructions that are exposed to rain, water, vapor, or other conditions. So, they should have a solid construction that is durable enough to provide a long-term service.

Compression and Set Screw Connectors and Couplings
The primary function of compression connectors is to attach unthreaded rigid conduits to electrical enclosures of electrical junction boxes in dry locations. You can rely on good-quality connectors to provide concrete-tight connections when taped and firm grounding of the conduits.
Compression couplings establish a connection between two unthreaded rigid conduits. They join the ends of the conduits and maintain mechanical protection in dry locations.
Likewise, set screw connectors and couplings do the job similar to compression connectors & couplings, respectively.
Rigid conduit nipples perform the work of bonding conduit fixtures to electrical enclosures and boxes. They are used with ‘knockout’ or ‘KO’ openings in electrical enclosures.
The bent elbows play the role of connectors between rigid conduits. The bend they allow depends on the bend of their body. For example, a 90-degree elbow will allow a 90-degree bend.
Threaded couplings, along with chase nipples, function as the connectors between electrical boxes mounted on fixed wall-mounting brackets. They make pulling wires from one box to another one much easier.
A three-piece coupling connects those threaded rigid conduits that cannot be turned. Zinc electroplated three-piece couplings are excellent for corrosion protection in damp locations.
Split & Solid Grounding Bushing
Split grounding bushings bond with rigid conduits requiring the installation of a ground wire. You can install them before or after the pulling of wires.
On the other hand, solid grounding bushings help in grounding rigid conduits. Quality bushings ensure mechanical protection for the raceways.
Pipe inserts are used to bond rigid conduits with wood forms. You’ll find their applications in making floors, walls, and ceilings in poured concrete structures.
Pipe caps provide protection to rigid conduit runs that have been stubbed up and used in place of dumped pipes for a temporary period. They keep away all the waste materials that can clog the conduits.
